Welcome to the training page for the Marine industry. At the present time we are unaware of any formal training programs to work with fiberglass (polyester) resin or epoxies, except for local junior college courses which we will try to research and list for you. However, those tend to be somewhat project-oriented and not geared towards the professional or production shop. Most education regarding boat building or repair tends to be word-of-mouth in this industry, but we will keep looking. Contact Us if you know of something.
Regarding paint systems above the water line, epoxy primers and polyurethane topcoats are the way to go. Most automotive systems will accomodate the painting of aluminum, wood, or fiberglass for marine use, but below the water line you will need an antifouling paint if the boat is not trailered and is kept dockside. The most popular paints we recommend for Marine use are Delfleet, Delfleet Essential, Shopline JAU, Awlgrip and Pettit. For the very large industrial job, we recommend PPG Protective and Marine Coatings. Available training is listed below, and call your nearest Ben's location if you have any questions. Let us know if we can help!
